what is a social network?
A social network is a website that allows you to connect with friends and family, share photos, videos, music and other personal information with either a select group of friends or a wider group of people, depending on the settings your select. Social networks like Facebook, Myspace and LinkedIn are great ways of keeping in touch with friends and family around the world as well as making new connections with people based on similar interests or professions.
how did social networks begin?
The earliest forms of the Internet, such as CompuServe, were developed in the 1960s.
and 1979’s UseNet allowed users to communicate through a virtual newsletter.
By the 1980s, home computers were becoming more common and social media was becoming more sophisticated. Internet relay chats, or IRCs, were first used in 1988 and continued to be popular well into the 1990’s.
The first recognizable social media site, Six Degrees, was created in 1997.
Do you considere they´re important for comunication ? explain
in my opinion the social networks play an important role but they are not so necessary to achieve a communication, they help people in different places to communicate also to meet new friends

the evolution of Social Networks can share photos, videos, hobbies, meet people, give you an acquaintance, interact with other people worldwide and many other activities on the network, something that could not be done before.

- the power of the image is the strong point of this social network: it is a perfect shop window.
- the information is classified and arranged in planks, which facilitates that the client finds what searches in a rapid way.
interest's cons:
- 80 % of the users is women. This point can be positive or negative, depends on which is our objective public.
- to obtain the wished success, the photographies must have the best possible resolution, it does not serve any photo.
- " another social network? What a laziness! ", it is sure that more of one has thought this. It is necessary to value if it is worth it or not to enter depending on what you want to obtain.
Flickr:

Flickr is an image- and video-hosting website and web services suite that was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo on 20 March 2005. In addition to being a popular website for users to share and embed personal photographs, and effectively an online community, the service is widely used by photo researchers and by bloggers to host images that they embed in blogs and social media.
Advantages:
- Storage: it allows yourself to classify and to store the photos. Beside sharing them with whom you want.
- Version pro: there exists a version that is not free (it costs 18 to 20 annual aprox.), that is allows to guard of unlimited form the quantity of photos that you want, with the maximum of resolution.
- you Can choose see the images in several sizes and even in way of presentation.
- It is very easy to raise the photos, to label them and The organization of the photos to describe them is very simple.
- Allows the application of filters.
- it is possible to create groups and communities of interests.
- In marketing is a good platform of exhibition of works realized by companies, organizations and professionals.
Disadvantages:
- Quality: in the free version, the photos lose resolution as in Facebook.
- If you want to use more Flickr's capacity, you have to pay.
- Flickr asks that the photos are not in use with commercial ends, which determines the use on the part of the companies, though it is more flexible if you acquire the version Pro (that of payment).
- It does not allow yourself to send direct instantaneous messages.
